Balmonds All-Natural Starter Set Review

[Ad] Balmonds was kind enough to send me their All-Natural Starter Set for review purposes, all opinions in this review are my own.

We are a family of sensitive skinned people! My husband and two of my children suffer from eczema, I have dry and papery skin on my hands and face, as does one of my teen daughters while another daughter suffers from spots and oily skin.

Balmonds products come with a really impressive set of claims. They are all either 99% or 100% natural and can be used by people of all ages and babies from 6 weeks on. Many of the ingredients are organic and biodynamic and are especially suited for sensitive and allergy prone skin. They are suitable for vegans, and the shampoo can even be used on your pets!

Well I love my dogs and chickens but I’m sorry but I am not going to waste my precious Balmonds Shampoo on them!!

The Balmonds company began when Natalie Balmond couldn’t find an effective and natural way to manage her daughter’s sensitive, allergy prone skin. She began experimenting in her kitchen and eventually created a bath oil and lotion based on traditional herbal remedies. These proved so effective that they are now sold worldwide.

The Balmonds All-Natural Starter Set comprises of four of their most popular products:

  1. Bath and Body Oil -200ml
  2. Extra Gentle Natural Shampoo and Body Wash – 200ml
  3. Daily Moisturising Cream – 100ml
  4. Skin Salvation – 30ml

The first three items on the list are all labeled as having none of the following: perfumes, parabens, paraffin, SLS, phthalates, silicones, phenoxyethanol, PEGs, mineral oil or lies!

1. The Bath and Body Oil

Sample of the Bath and Body Oil in my hand, Balmonds All-Natural Starter Set Review
Bath and Body Oil

The Balmonds Bath and Body Oil is suitable for people who are suffering with dry or itchy skin, as well as more serious complications like eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. It contains hemp, chamomile, sunflower seed oil, safflower, calendula, lavender and is labled as being 100% natural, in fact most of the ingredients are organic too.

This oil with its lovely gentle chamomile smell can be applied in tiny amounts to your skin or poured into the bath. The directions say add 1-2 tablespoons to the bath, I didn’t use a spoon and just guessed with a couple of spurts from the bottle but think I added a bit too much as I came out a slippery as an eel! It also took some real elbow grease to clean the bath so that my husband wouldn’t slip and injure himself in the bath the following morning when he had a shower. I even noticed a few oily patches on my sheets the next morning from where my legs were lying, so next time I think I need to be a bit less generous with the oil. At least my skin was lovely and smooth and smelt wonderfully of chamomile – which is well known for helping one to relax and sleep well!

The skin on the backs of my hands is extemely dry, especially at the moment with all the hand washing that we are doing, so I like to rub a tiny drop in to them to take away that papery feeling.

2. The Extra Gentle Natural Shampoo and Body Wash

Balmonds Extra Gentle Shampoo and Body wash, Balmonds All-Natural Starter Set Review
Natural Shampoo and Body Wash

The Extra Gentle Natural Shampoo and Body Wash contains nettle, chamomile, lemongrass, chickweed, honeysuckle, marigold, sweet basil and clove and is 99.9% natural. The colour and the smell both remind me of the barley sweets our maths teacher used to give us during exams in high school, mixed with a slight minty aroma.

Like the Bath Oil it is suitable for people with sensitive skin, dry and itchy scalps, as well as more serious complications like eczema, psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis.

Because it doesn’t contain any synthetic foamers it has a gentler lather so I was concerned that it wouldn’t give a nice big foam or keep my hair clean for as long as the harsher chemical filled shampoos I am used to using. However, it foams really well, the advice on the bottle is to add a bit more water rather than product to create a better lather. My hair feels clean for about 3 days which is what I normally expect with my long hair.

I like that you can use this product on your body as well as your hair and that it feels gentle on my skin. I also love that it doesn’t have a harsh perfume, I would have loved to have this for my kids when they were babies. I find the pump on the bottle really handy for using in the shower as you only need one hand.

3. Daily Moisturising Cream

Balmonds Daily Moisturising Cream

The Balmonds Daily Moisturising Cream is 99% natural and contains hemp, shea, olive oil, chickweed, nettle, chamomile and calendula. It is a light smooth cream and I have been using it all over my body including my face. It is absorbed easily into my skin and doesn’t leave it feeling greasy or sticky.

The set comes with a 100ml bottle but with the amount I am using everyday, I think that I need the bigger 300ml bottle. However, the 100ml would be very useful if you’re a frequent traveller and are limited by cabin baggage allowances. This bottle also has a pump action spout so you can easily control the amount that is dispensed.

The smell is soft and natural, Fia tells me it reminds her of apple pie! This moisturiser is suitable for all skin types and can be used on babies from 6 weeks onwards.

4. Skin Salvation

I wrote a previous comprehensive review of this amazing product when I was sent the 120ml jar as a sample. The All-Natural starter set contains a smaller 30ml jar which is an ideal handbag size. Skin Salvation contains olive oil and beeswax amongst other things and is a lovely thick ointment useful for just about anything! If the kids come to me complaining of any skin related ailment now, I hand them this.

We have used it for scratches, cuts, burns, bites, stings, spots, dry heels, lip salve and relief from dry and itchy patches. It can also be used for nappy rash, eczema, chaffing, tattoo after care and a range of other skin irritations.

I love the smell and feel of this ointment and can’t recommend it highly enough.
