Balmonds Skin Salvation Review
As a family of six, we all have differing skin issues – some with eczema, some with dry patches of skin or flaky lips, a couple of teenagers with spots (oh yes and me too), and I have cracked heels. You could be forgiven for thinking we’re related to lizards. So I was delighted to be sent a jar of Balmonds Skin Salvation to try out on our family for review purposes, as well as be able to offer my readers the opportunity to win a fabulous All-Natural Starter Set and avail of a 20% discount on any purchases of Balmonds products.
When I first heard about the Balmonds Skin Salvation cream I was intrigued by the story behind how it came to be. Balmonds began when a mum, after trying all the options available, was so desperate to find a moisturiser that brought relief for her daughter’s dry and allergy prone skin (which didn’t contain steroids), that she ended up making one herself.
After reading the list of ingredients in Balmonds Skin Salvation, and what it can be used for, I was even more impressed! Everything in it is 100% natural, as mild as possible, with no chemicals, preservatives, fragrances, or known irritants. It can be used for relief from eczema, chapped lips, chafing, nappy rash, dribble rash, rough skin, sore noses, minor cuts and grazes, tattoo aftercare, dry hands as well as for makeup removal and many more. I was keen to try it out on all our various skin ailments to see whether it could turn our reptilian skins into something altogether more peachy! 😀
My Review of Balmonds Skin Salvation
My first impressions of the ointment is that it has a lovely beeswax and herby smell and attractive pale avocado green colour. It feels smooth and unctuous, and leaves a waterproof coating on your skin. After using Balmonds Skin Salvation for three weeks, we have found it brilliant for a variety of applications.
I was scratched on my hand by a rabbit the day after I received Balmonds Skin Salvation, (did you know that rabbits have extremely sharb claws?!) and after washing the scratch well, I applied some of the ointment. After three of weeks of regular application, the scratch is invisible – and my skin feels more nourished.
I have also been applying it to my horrible cracked heels in the mornings after a shower and the evenings before bed and I am delighted with the results – they are now smooth enough for sandals (roll on summer!), and I no longer hear cringe-inducing crickly noises when I move my feet around on the sheets.
Nate, my 15 year old, who hates putting anything on his skin, has a patch of eczema under his chin. After two applications of Skin Savation, he has felt a big difference – his skin feels smoother.
I have been using the Skin Salvation as lip balm as it is thick and smooth without any flavour and it works really well in that it doesn’t wear off immediately. I have also been applying a dab to seal my spots on my face from further infection (yes, I still get them erratically – I blame the midlife hormones). The natural antimicrobial properties in beeswax seems to have helped prevent the spots from getting any bigger.
Because of the greenish tinge which shows if you put a thick layer of Skin Salvation on your skin, I wouldn’t recommend you lather it all over your face if you don’t want to look like Shrek and Fiona!
I really wish I had heard of this ointment when my kids were babies and suffered with nappy rash. There was also a time when both Nate and Fia kids had awful itchy patches of angry red eczema on the backs of their legs and this would have been absolutely ideal for that.
We were also sent a trio of mini tester samples of the Balmonds Intensive Hand Cream, the Daily Moisturising Cream and Skin Salvation
Rebecca stuggles with dry patches on her face and I have battled to find a cream that doesn’t burn when applied – even the most plain creams from the pharmacy have been uncomfortable for her. So I was thrilled that the Balmond’s Daily Moisturing Cream is so gentle as well as being effective on her skin.
I have particularily dry skin on my hands and use hand lotion several times a day – I always have a tube of one or another in my bag. However, most hand lotions have really strong fragrances and the kids complain when I apply them while we’re in the car! The Balmonds Intensive Hand Cream is so lightly fragranced, you only smell a light but pleasant beeswax aroma. It also feels silky and leaves my hands feeling well coated without feeling greasy.
What’s in Balmonds Skin Salvation?
Some of the ingredients in Balmonds Skin Salvation include cold-pressed oils (hempseed, olive and safflower), calendula (marigold), chamomile, nettle, stellaria (chickweed) and beeswax from a local family farm.
“Beeswax is a wonderful ingredient for skincare because it is naturally antimicrobial, battling the bugs that can cause infection, and is a brilliant humectant, which means it locks moisture into thirsty skin. It also provides a breathable protective layer over broken or raw skin, soothing the itch and protecting from external irritants and allergens like dust or pollen.”Balmonds website
There is no paraffin, no mineral oils, no synthetic emulsifiers and no highly irritant perfumes nor any dairy derived products in Bamonds Skin Salvation. No nut products are used in any of the products or anywhere on the premises. This ointment is suitable for highly allergenic skin.
